Print-on-Demand Update
Hail and well met, Squisherinos!*
I just wanted to share some news on the physical copies / print-on-demand front.
Earlier this week I received my proof copy of Squish! from Lulu.com.
I'm pleased to say the overall quality of the binding and print is excellent, but unfortunately there was a slight printing error.
As you can hopefully see from the images below, the content of the book was printed slightly too far up the page, meaning in some points parts of the text and illustrations were either very close to the page edge, or even cut off at the top.
I contacted Lulu support about this: to their credit they responded very promptly and gave me a lot of info. However, they confirmed that while I have correctly followed the margins and layout template they provided, apparently sometimes the paper stacks shift slightly during print, resulting in this problem.
In a nutshell they basically acknowledged that this is a printing error, and that it is not a one-off, but since they do not guarantee perfect text centering, my proof copy "does not appear defective". Needless to say, this was a bit frustrating.
Fortunately, even with this error, the book still looks great and is perfectly legible. Nonetheless, what this all means is that this kind of thing has a likelihood of happening again. How small or big that likelihood is, remains to be seen.
I have ordered a second proof copy after making some margin adjustments on some of the pages (as recommended by Lulu), as well as some brightness and contrast adjustments I wanted to make anyway. Hopefully, I won't see a repeat of the same printing error.
I'll post another devlog when I have more news on this.
In the meantime, a huge thank you to everyone who has purchased and/or downloaded the game so far!
This went from being an experiment in solo RPG design into a full-blown labour of love, so it means so much that the game is getting out there. I hope you enjoy it :)
Until next time,
- Penflower
